The History of Jingdezhen Porcelain

Introduction

At JingdezhenWare, we believe in celebrating the rich history and cultural significance of Jingdezhen porcelain. For over 1,000 years, this Chinese city has been known as the ‘Porcelain Capital of the World,’ thanks to its mastery of porcelain production.

The Beginnings

The porcelain industry in Jingdezhen dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD), where potters first began experimenting with porcelain. By the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD), Jingdezhen had become the primary source of porcelain for the imperial court and was exporting to countries all over the world, including Europe.

Revolution in Craftsmanship

During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD), Jingdezhen experienced its golden age of porcelain craftsmanship. The kilns produced some of the most exquisite and complex pieces, including the famous blue-and-white porcelain and the brightly colored famille-verte. Today, Jingdezhen porcelain continues to be a beloved art form, admired for its beauty and traditional craftsmanship.
